Quality Crusade
The Surprising Wines of Thailand

[Bangkok, Thailand] -- [11/20/08] -- [WineEducation.com], the not for profit organization that since 1996 has been dedicated to promoting wine appreciation to the world, would like to thank the Thai Wine Association for their support. As part of a year long world wide adventure to discover the unheralded corners of the wine world, Dr. Stephen Reiss, Certified Wine Educator and founder of WineEducation.com recently visited the Khao Yai Region of Thailand.

ÒI was amazed by the quality of wines and the fierce determination of the Thai wine making communityÓ said Dr. Reiss at a recent event. ÒThey are not only managing to make wine in what many, including myself would have thought of as a region unsuitable for vines, they are making world class wines.Ó

WineEducation.com has long been a vocal supporter of wine tourism, pointing out the advantages to the consumers and the wineries from personal visits. The properties of the Khao Yai area, just two hours outside of Bangkok are well suited to handle the influx of tourism with restaurants that range from family to fine dining. Accommodations are even available at some of the locations.

The Thai Wine Association was formed in 2004, exactly ten years after the first Thai grape wine was launched. The Kingdom's leading wine producers set up the association to join forces and immediately established winemaking quality standards and labeling requirements for Thai-produced grape wines. Members adhere to the Thai Wine Charter, which is in line with international standards.

Dr. Reiss has been chronicling his Thai wine experiences on his award winning Whine Wines blog and will be writing a series of articles for several other publications. This is not the first time Dr. Reiss has visited wineries in Asia. In 1996 he was part of the first US Congressional Wine Delegation to the PeopleÕs Republic of China. Dr. Reiss has pledged to continue to raise awareness of the wines of Asia.

The Quality Crusade is now nearing the half way point at six months after having already traveled to investigate first hand the wines of Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia, Hungary and India. The second half of the trip will concentrate on the wines of South America with emphasis on Chile and Argentina.
